You may be reading this as an influencer, aspiring influencer or a lawyer, this article is dedicated to you. Influencer marketing has grown in recent years into a multibillion-dollar industry. This could be an appropriate time to join the industry if you have not yet done so.

From as early as 2014, young people have been hooked to social media platforms such as Instagram ,Facebook Tiktok, as well as Youtube among others. The rise of the influencer industry has been a slow and steady one. Many people have been able to make decent money from these online gigs.

If you struggle with the tight schedule at work, employee grudges, and the several workplace fights — and you’re thinking of ditching your 9 to 5; this might be an eye-opener for you.

1. How you can join influencer marketing in 2022

Believe it or not, the influencer market is far from being saturated, in fact it is underutilized. In this modern-day age, many people are still stuck in office jobs. This may be the perfect opportunity to join the market as my mentor did.

The steps are simple and easy as follows;

· Own a smartphone or laptop

· Have access to stable and reliable internet

· Open a social media account and create content consistently.

Be assured that if you are willing to put in the required amount of quality content, brands will approach you for partnerships and you can reap the benefits -I mean MONEY of course! The good thing about this industry is that the pay rates are as flexible as possible, the money you get depends on your negotiation skills and this is where a LAWYER should come in.

2. Why you should contact a lawyer before signing influencer gigs

By now, let us assume you have been contacted by a company, agency or a direct client to do an influencing gig for them. They give you a contract specifying terms and conditions. You peruse the contract and are hurriedly told to sign. What is your first instinct? More often than not you sign because you are either too lazy to read or negotiate. Do not do this.

There is so much money behind these influencer marketing gigs. There are a lot of scammers and companies that take advantage of micro influencers and naïve ones especially. Hiring a lawyer saves you the trouble of perusing a lot of clauses in a contract.

It may not seem like the most obvious thing to do, -contacting a lawyer but it will save you in the long run. Terms like exclusivity clause, perpetuity clauses may look easy on paper but will affect your influencer pay and work in general.

On the flip side, if you are a lawyer reading this, the influencer marketing industry is an untapped gold mine. It is not as saturated as other sectors and should be tapped into. If not now, when?

Final thoughts

As earlier said, this industry’s potential is yet to be fully realized. There is room for everyone. There is a lot of money to be made and that is why influencer marketing is the next big thing for lawyers as well as all kinds of people.
